About the Role
At Motek, we build advanced mechatronics and robotics for human movement research and rehabilitation. While our next major ground-up R&D phase is scheduled to begin in about 7 months, our globally deployed hardware is active right now, and it needs a dedicated guardian.
In this role, you will take complete ownership of our existing mechanical architecture. You will investigate complex field issues, perform cost optimization projects, and ensure our products are maintained according to the state of the art.
This is a role for someone who gets immense satisfaction from finding the root cause of a stubborn problem, executing a clever mechanical fix, and knowing their work had an immediate impact on the manufacturing floor.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Sustaining & Maintenance: Develop and ensure maintenance of products in compliance with process regulations, working closely with production, procurement, QA/RA, and technical service.
The Root Cause Detective: Perform design changes of technical drawings and assemblies, implementing them into the Bill of Materials using CAD/PDM tools to resolve field or manufacturing issues.
Manufacturing & Cost Optimization: Lead cost optimization projects with manufacturing and the supply chain. Support the creation of manufacturing/supplier documentation and service tools.
Compliance & Testing: Supervise safety and approval-relevant tests in accordance with medical device requirements (including IEC 60601-1). Support process validation activities.
Data Guardian: Create and manage Bill of Materials in PDM/ERP tools, ensuring all documentation is managed strictly in accordance with internal QMS and legal regulations.
Future-Proofing: Create prototypes and test benches. Use this current sustaining period to master the intricate mechanics of our systems inside and out, providing vital mechanical engineering input for upcoming product requirements.
CAPA Ownership: Lead the mechanical engineering response for Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs). Investigate field failures, perform root cause analysis, and design, document, and implement effective mechanical solutions.
What We Are Looking For (Qualifications)
Education: A University (Bachelor or Master) degree in Mechanics/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Experience: At least 3 years of working experience in an international engineering and manufacturing environment, strongly preferred in a regulated medical device environment.
Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of relevant mechanical parts of IEC 60601-1 (and/or other applicable standards). Experience in mechatronics or robotics is highly preferred.
System Savvy: Very good knowledge of 3D-CAD (preferably Solidworks) and hands-on experience with ERP/PDM systems.
Manufacturing Know-How: Strong understanding of common manufacturing technologies and the creation of technical drawings according to applicable standards & guidelines.
Communication: Excellent command of written and spoken English. (Dutch is an advantage).
